They must be felt with the heart...."

Foster a Horse in Need

Because SSS has limited space for horsekeeping, we rely on a network of foster homes to house many of our rescued horses until they can be adopted. These horses include weaned foals, companion horses, and even riding horses.

There are so many forgotten horses out there that SSS would like to be able to help, but the sad truth is that, due to limited space, only a handful of horses can be saved, kept and properly cared for on our 20 acre facility. Without foster homes, we cannot make space for more neglected and abused horses seeking refuge.

What we need is more people in Montana who can offer a temporary home to even just one horse in need. We're looking for foster homes who have adequate shelter and turnout, the ability to feed twice a day and to monitor the horse's health and weight, and enough experience to be able to care for a horse safely. SSS will cover vet and farrier expenses for horses in foster care, and can also help with feeding costs if needed.

If you are interested in getting more involved with SSS by becoming a foster parent, we'll ask you to fill out an application, provide references, and allow us to conduct a site visit. We do these things to help assure the best and safest experience for both the foster family and the foster horse.
